CINCINNATI (WKRC) - A new law in the city of Cincinnati that decriminalizes marijuana is generating a healthy debate in our community. The new law went into effect last week. It decriminalizes marijuana possession in the city limits, allowing individuals to have up to 100 grams without fines or prosecution.
That's about three-and-a-half ounces, which, depending on potency, can make about 200 joints. There are concerns about this law from those looking at the health of our community, especially because it lacks age restrictions.
Dr. O'dell Owens, the president of Interact for Health and Cincinnati City Councilmember Jeff Pastor stopped by Local 12 to debate the new ordinance. (You can watch their discussion in the video above.)
Vice Mayor Christopher Smitherman filed a motion Thursday to track marijuana violations in the city, which could help us learn more about some of the concerns raised during Owens and Pastor's debate.
The two did agree to bring up age restrictions related to this law at a future city council meeting.
