China completes world's 'most difficult' cross-strait road-rail bridge

China completes world's 'most difficult' cross-strait road-rail bridge The construction of China's first cross-strait road-rail bridge, the Pingtan section, has been completed in the southeastern city of Fuzhou. Construction of the bridge has been described as the most difficult of its kind in the world, with a total length of 16.34 kilometers. Construction started in November 2013. It is built over the extremely rough sea off the coast of southeast China, a region that is noted for strong winds and sea currents all year round. The annual construction time lasted less than four months because of the extreme environment. The bridge is expected to be open in 2020.
