ગુજરાત, સૌરાષ્ટ્ર અને કચ્છની ધરતીના ગામડાંઓનું લોકજીવન આજે ઝડપી વિકાસના કેડે ચડીને યંત્રયુગની આંધિમાં ઉડાઉડ કરી રહ્યું છે. જૂના કાળે ભાંડ, ભવાયા, વાદી- મદારી, નટ- બજાણિયા, રાવણહથ્થાવાળા અને રામલીલા ભજવનારાઓ ગ્રામપ્રજાનું મનોરંજન કરાવી બાર મહિનાનું પેટિયું (રોટલો) રળી લેતા. આજે ટી.વી. ચેનલો, મોબાઇલ આવતાં મદારીની મોરલી, ભવાયાની ભૂંગળો અને તૂરી, બારોટના રાવણહથ્થા મૂંગામંતર બની ગયાં. ગ્રામ સંસ્કૃતિમાંથી ગાડાં, વેલડાં ને માફાની સાથે કાંકરેજી, વઢિયારા નાગોરી અને ગીર ગાયના દેશી બળદો ગયા. યુદ્ધ, ધીંગાણા ને મુસાફરીના ખપમાં લેવાતાં પાણીપંથા કાઠિયાવાડી દેવતાઇ અશ્વોનો આખો યુગ આથમી ગયો. જાનનાં ગાડાં વેલડાં અને લગ્નગીતોનાં ઝકોળાય ગયા. એની જગ્યાએ મોટરો, ટ્રેકટરો અને મોટર સાઇકલોએ બઘડાટી બોલાવવા માંડી.

ગામડાંનાં સાત્વિક અને બળપ્રદ ખાનપાન- બાજરાના રોટલા, ઘી, દૂધ, માખણ, લાપશી અને લાડવા ગયા, ને પાંવ-ભાજી, ભેળપુરી અને કચ્છી દાબેલીએ ગ્રામ રસોડામાં રાજ કરવા માંડયું.
