In an interview with local news station Channel 5, the Reverend Foty said the mother was overreacting and unfamiliar with the ritual. He said he was performing the baptism according to church rules.
On Sunday, August 11, the Russian Orthodox Church published an official apology on its website, followed by a statement that Father Foty has been banned from performing his duties for one year.
