
I totally understand how scary it is to talk openly or tell people about how you’re feeling and what your symptoms are, believe me I know how petrifying this experience can be.
So how do you tell your parents and family?
The mistake many people do is just telling them I’m depressed and thats it, if you say that to them they won’t understand totally how you’re feeling and sometimes they may think you’re not depressed as you haven’t explained anything to them.
Sit them down, be in an environment thats comfortable for you, explain to them everything, not just I’m depressed, don’t even mention the word depression to begin with, mention to them how you’re feeling, how you feel on a day to day basis, talk about your symptoms, why you think you may feel this way then tell them you think you’re depressed.
This was they will be able to see how you feel, your symptoms how it’s affecting you and be able to understand more about why you think you’re depressed
The same goes for your friends, don’t just say to them I’m depressed, treat your friends the same as you would with your family.
What about a therapist?
Keep in your mind that the therapist is there to help you, they cant help you if they don’t know how you’re feeling.
