For this Skype Session we think and discuss our way through a thought experiment based on this question: "What would Life.Examined. do with $100 million?" In wrestling with this thought experiment we touch upon numerous important philosophical themes as together we articulate in greater depth our vision for the future of Life.Examined. Life.Examined. is a vibrant organization centered on the vision of a world in which philosophy and philosophical practice have an invaluable role to play within our societies and daily lives. The roots of Life.Examined. extend back to the spring of 2017 in which the dream of a few philosophically-minded friends to see philosophy venture beyond the walls of academia and into the hearts and minds of the broader public resulted in the inauguration of what would become a staple of Life.Examined., namely the Socratic Panel Discussion series. Moderated by philosophical practitioner Miriam van der Valk along with a panel consisting of philosophers Joshua Bronson, Matthew T. Nowachek, and Christoffer Lindgren that is often joined by various guests, this series is filled with the excitement of live interactive philosophy that unfolds through an organic and engaging dialogue between panel and public. It is an exercise in philosophy that has proven time and again to be an edifying and entertaining search for truth and clarity. Since its humble beginnings in 2017, Life.Examined. has expanded its vision more broadly into other mediums in addition to its Socratic Panel Discussions such as interactive lectures, workshops as well as events geared towards businesses and organizations.
Although Life.Examined. currently runs its operations out of Gothenburg, Sweden with many of its events held at the Gothenburg Literature House, the organization has also been looking to carry its vision to other cities within Sweden, other countries within Europe, and even other international destinations.
The great philosopher Socrates famously noted that “The unexamined life is not worth living.” In response to this challenging statement, we at Life.Examined. have taken upon ourselves the daunting, yet beautiful task of not only living life, but also of examining it. This task, however, is one that we cannot carry out on our own. As such, our vision now falls to you: Will you join us as a crucial voice in this important dialogue? This is our vision. This is our philosophy. This is Life.Examined.
