Ms. Jessicah Iuren is among 11 women who formed Abango Naajakon Women Group last year in May and are exploiting opportunities along livestock value chain where they naturally preserve and pack meat.
Christened 'Arukot- Product of Turkana' the group after slaughtering a goat, it gets all the meat from the bones after inspection by public health officials and cut into small pieces.
The meat is boiled while being stirred occassionally for two to three hours until all fat comes out and left to dry. Once dry it is packed in labelled containers in quantities of a quater a kilo that will retail at 525, a half a kilo for Sh. 1125 and a kilo for Sh. 2250. The preserved meat last for eight months.
