Call of Duty 3 Part 3. Different perspectives. (Regular Campaign Blind)

Call of Duty 3 Part 3. Different perspectives. (Regular Campaign Blind) Hello everybody! Welcome to my Call of Duty 3 Let's Play. My name is digidv85 but please call me dig for short. This is a blind run of the campaign on regular difficulty, with gameplay featured on Xbox 360.

About Game: Call of Duty 3 is the third numbered entry in the Call of Duty series. Like its predecessors, the gameplay is shown from a first-person perspective. Most of the campaign involves shooting enemy soldiers with whatever weapons are available while moving through a linear environment. The campaign involves different characters from different countries all fighting in France during World a War II. The game is set at numerous locales within the German-controlled country ranging from fields to bombed out cities. This game was developed by Treyarch unlike Call of Duty 1 and 2 which were made by Infinity Ward. The gameplay differs from previous titles in that hit detection is not as smooth.

Both the AI ally and enemy suffers somewhat as well. All the playable characters are completely mute, sticking to traditional Call of a Duty standards. Ammo for guns started with in the Missions is scarcer relying on picking up German weapons more often then not. Another annoying feature is the inability to skip cutscenes before each campaign mission, even if they were already viewed. Quick time events were added to the game which severely detract from the gaming experience since time is mostly frozen during these segments. On and off your character is sometimes allowed to take control of tanks or ride on them to new destinations. Like with Call of Duty 2, a few objectives are open-ended allowing you to tackle them in whatever order desired.

Reload animations are always the same no matter what amount of ammunition is left in the clip. This defies other Call of Duty games. Health regenerates automatically although initial damage input on the character seems to have increased while overall healing time was shortened. Grenades can be thrown back by utilizing an in-game prompt. Only two firearms can be held at any time but can be swapped out for weapons lying on the ground. Frag and smoke grenades can also be used. There’s no run option although the character can hold their stance in three different poses; standing, crouched and prone. The compass marker returns to show where to move in the campaign for the current objective.

The campaign meanwhile consists of fourteen missions spread across the various nations fighting in France. The allied forces are made up of Americans, Canadians, Polish and British. Each side has you play as a different soldier with different squad mates and various weapons based on the country they represent thus altering the gameplay experience each time. The campaign constantly changes which side you play on as it progresses. Multiplayer was also included but not covered in this Let’s Play. I remain focused on single player outings for now so playing through a campaign within the Call of Duty universe is what I plan on doing for the immediate future.

Activision published the game. Treyarch used their own engine to make Call of Duty 3 having worked roughly eight months on its production. PC ports were planned yet never made. Reviews for the game ranged from mixed to favorable, with certain critics calling out how different the gameplay differed from other Call of Duty titles. Sales were decent which reflect upon the overall review scores. Call of Duty itself remains hugely popular and profitable franchise that continues to see new games to this day. Call of Duty 3 is the second Call of Duty game to be made by Treyarch after Big Red One. They would later work on another spin off series known as Black Ops. Activision still owns the rights to the franchise.

My opinion on this game is a little divided. While it stays true to the Call of Duty formula for the most part, I found certain gameplay aspects to interfere with having fun with this particular Let’s Play. Checkpoints seem to be awkwardly placed within the campaign being too few and far in between. I play all the single player Call of Duty games on Regular difficulty. Despite this being Standard, I found myself dying a lot. Even more than usual for this type of video game. Anger set in for a few tense moments.

Did I have fun through the whole experience? Yes and no. It does feel like Treyarch didn’t embrace what worked prior then introducing new elements that weren’t necessary. It’s hard for me to point to exactly what did work in Call of Duty 3. I try to play these games with an open mind no matter what the critics say. Overall the negatives outweigh the overall positives. Granted I didn’t have as bad a time like with the first Call of Duty as that was an absolute nightmare. I still wish Call of Duty 3 could’ve been better.
