Deep Red Roses Round Her Door by Rich Deluxe

Deep Red Roses Round Her Door by Rich Deluxe DEEP RED ROSES ROUND HER DOOR
I used to see her hanging round my neighbourhood
Making noise in Spanish by the flats
I counted every single rose as I was walking down the road
I learnt to tell the time from all the cats
Painting the world in vivid red - that's her job for sure
Like the deep red roses round her door

I saw her come out of the heat haze
Her bruises and black eyes were just a blur
I sat her down on my front step
And I tried to make sense out of what she said
Her Dad had taken everything out on her
The sunbeams come and pick her up whenever she's on the floor
Like the deep red roses round her door

She never really cried
The deepest bruises were inside
At A and E I explained as best I could
Although I wasn't sure I understood about the roses
And how they bloomed in the light

I met her in the park a few years later
Her kids were laughing and dancing on the lawn
She had a smile ten miles wide as she ate ice cream outside
She said "never forget that roses all have thorns"
Now the sunbeams come and pick me up whenever I'm on the floor
Like the deep red roses round her door
And then she paints the world in vivid red - that's her job for sure
Like the deep red roses round her door
