Why I need an actual application to approve you for a mortgage

Why I need an actual application to approve you for a mortgage Recently I have gotten multiple call where buyers would like me to approve them for a mortgage without doing an application so they can go home shopping. I have explained 9 different ways about how I can't really approve anyone without an application and since pre approvals are free wouldn't you want it done properly? The conversations are not working so I thought perhaps it was time for a food illustration. Oh yes, I am in the kitchen. Be afraid!!!:)
