Add text on a path

Add text on a path - [Instructor] All righty, let's go ahead and add some text to this path. If you tap T on your keyboard, that will get you the type tool, as it did earlier. But now if you move up to the path, you will notice that as you get near it, it gets a small wavy line underneath the I-beam cursor. And when you see that, it means it's ready to put text on the path. Now, Illustrator does have a specific tool to do this, but it also has this intelligence that allows it to work in this way, which is much more convenient. So if you click, you will get some placeholder text, like so. Now, I actually got you to copy text to the clipboard earlier just in case it used a different typeface for the path, but it hasn't on mine, so I'm going to work with what's there. If not, while that text is selected, you could simply paste down what you copied earlier. Okay, so let's change what this says. So I've created the fabulous extravogahnza, extravoganza, however you want to say it, for the avocado festival. So I'm going to put my caps lock on and do all of this in uppercase. So E-X-T-R-A. Okay, then V-O-G-A-N-Z-A. Perfect. Okay, so now we've got that. We can make that a bit larger, I think. So we'll select all of that text, just drag across it, and then we'll change the size. Now, if you've got a scroll wheel on your mouse or if you're using a trackpad, you don't need to click inside this size field here in this control strip at the top, or actually down here in the character area of the properties panel. Watch what happens when I scroll upwards. Can you see that the text size there is changing? Okay, so I'm going to take that up to 100 points. Alternately, if you're struggling with doing that, okay, just type 100 in that field and it will change the text size. Don't worry if some of it disappears. We're going to fix that in just a moment. Okay, now we'll just change the color of this text. So we'll make this text sort of a deep, nice red color. So this one from the top line, not the super bright one. Perhaps this one just a bit further on next to this magenta. We'll do that. And then we'll actually highlight just the letters A, V, and O there, and we'll make those white to highlight that and so it makes sense that it's extravoganza. Now hit the Escape key on your keyboard. By the way, you can take your caps lock off, as well, if you want to. And you'll see that there are some lines on either side of your text, and what they do is they determine where the text can appear on the path. If you move your cursor over the one on the left-hand side, you should see a slightly different cursor. It'll have a line with an arrow. And then if you mouse down or just press down on your trackpad and drag, you'll see that the text makes its way along the path. And once we've got it in the middle there, like so, we can just click away for a second, save our work, ready to move on.
