Do You Have Managers That Are LGBT Allies?

Do You Have Managers That Are LGBT Allies? LGBT Best Practice: 15. Do You Have Managers That Are LGBT Allies?

Are they visible in the organisation?

How do you know they are LGBT allies?

What does your organisation do to ensure people know who the LGBT allies are?

Do you actively encourage managers to be LGBT+ allies, provide training for this and offer them year round support?

The ally training will give them knowledge about LGBT life, prepare them so they are able to answer questions and provide support to employees and managers.

Critically, it will give them the confidence to have conversations with others about being LGBT, the issues the community face and what they can do to support colleagues, customers and friends.

Creating a space for regular conversations for your allies is fundamental, as well as regular training.

Make sure they are educated on potential LGBT issues and know what to do if they hear inappropriate conversations, notice any form of discrimination or if someone is asking inappropriate questions.

And lastly, think about HOW you empower your allies to create change in your organisation and local community.

In this series I am sharing LGBT best practice for organisations.
