Gender-based violence  | Tracking the work of specialised GBV courts - Part 2 Prosecuting those responsible for perpetrating domestic violence plays a pivotal role in the clamp down on gender-based violence, femicide and child abuse.

In March this year, President Cyril Ramaphosa opened the "state-of-the-art" Booysens Magistrate's Court, in Johannesburg. It was aimed at creating access for people to report complaints such as maintenance claims and domestic violence, among others.

The opening of the facility followed hot-on-the-heels of the first-ever Presidential Summit on Gender-Based Violence and Femicide, held in November of 2018. It was the beginning of the implementation of the decisions agreed to, in drawing up a roadmap.

We are still observing Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children, so lets reflect on the work of this specialised court.
