If you are clear and confident on the skills you have and you are able to demonstrate some real results from the skill then it becomes a question of how much value the company places on the outcome of the skills as opposed to how much salary they have (at times) arbitrarily set.
And that immediately makes you more valuable.
I am now very clear what I am great at, what I am simply good at and what I am completely bad at and it goes without saying that most projects I get involved in takes advantage of what I am great at.
