In this video, I refinished a Kohler and Campbell upright piano. I bought this piano on eBay for $103.00 and the supplies for this project cost around $100.00. I saw other people do this on youtube, but no one had any modern design like what I completed. Designers either did only 1 color for the whole piano or did a very advanced detailed design. I did not want to do just 1 color, cause in my opinion, this would look worse than just the normal wood finish. I also don't have the talent to do a very detailed painting. The design I chose really looks good and is an improvement to the original wood finish. I originally anticipated that this project was going to be completed in the first few days but it took a lot longer than I thought. The first 3 days I put in 5 hours of work a day, but as the days continued it was quite strenuous. The whole project was completed in 8 days and totaling around 20 hours of effort. I began this project by using a hand sander, but I stopped using this after I used this on the bench. I stopped because I did not want to shave down the craftmanship details of the piano. I shifted to removing the old finish using liquid sandpaper on the rest of the accessory parts and piano; I felt this was much more effective. I then moved on to placing primer. This is important because it will help ensure that the paint placed later will stick to the smooth surface of the wood. I then cover everything in paint and used painters tape to create straight edges and barriers between the colors. The most important step is the last. I finished the piano with lacquer. I put multiple coats of this on the piano and waited 48ish hours for this to dry before reassembling. There is a lot of scraping when reassembling the piano so I had to be positive that I was not going to ruin the finish I just placed. This is also important on the wood near the keys. My fingers move fast when playing and can very often scrape the wood from my nails unintentionally. Let me know what you think? I know many people like the wood finish, but I feel a change from the norm is very fun. Fun fact I spilled a can of white paint during this project, it was in the video. Did you catch it?
