Kobe Bryant’s death stunned the NBA and Sports world, with an incredible outpouring of reaction following his passing in a helicopter crash that killed 8 other people in California. It was a worldwide reaction as one of the greatest NBA superstars died at the age of 41, cutting short his off-the-court contributions to his legacy. The likes of Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson, Shaq, LeBron James, Jerry West, Kyrie Irving and more all had emotional reactions to the death of Kobe. Kobe was one of 9 people killed in a tragic helicopter crash on Sunday morning in California, including his 13-year old daughter Gianna. NBA legends like Jerry West, Michael Jordan, Shaq, Dirk Nowitzki and Magic Johnson all issued statements over the loss of Kobe.
NBA players, coaches and fans were emotional in the games played Sunday. Kyrie Irving, who was mentored by Kobe, chose to not play in his team’s game. Other teams had 8 or 24-second clock violations to open their games as a sign of respect. Trae Young played one of his best games, rocking a #8 jersey. The Dallas Mavericks even announced they would be retiring the #24 jersey.
LeBron James and Quinn Cook, current LA Lakers, were both visibly emotional when they found out the news that Kobe Bryant died. Cook went outside Staples Center, while LeBron was crying after the team plane landed.
