First on the bill, at zero minutes and zero seconds, is the opening and closing to a DVD of LOVERS AND LIARS, a 2004 disc from the Treasure Box Collection, which shouldn't be confused with the Criterion Collection but is about a billionth as good at mastering the films that it gets tossed. I suppose the way the film gets treated on this disc is fitting because this was actually chosen as a Dog of the Week on SNEAK PREVIEWS. ( It still has the Samuel Goldwyn Company logo at the start, at the very least. The disc files were created on September 1, 2004.
We stick with the Treasure Box Collection for a double-sided disc of THE GREAT ADVENTURE and GOD'S GUN. I did the opening and closing to the first of the two sides, the files for which were created on November 7, 2004; that shows up at 6:19. The film on that side has a theme song performed by Joseph Allegro, who now has contributed quite possibly the dreariest dinner theater impression of Dean Martin I have ever heard.
Then we have four items from Dollar DVD . . . yes, that's actually the name of the company that made the four. It's apparently a sublabel of some company Brentwood Communications, and, like Gateway Video (a sublabel of Paramount), Dollar DVD doesn't have appear to have its own logo. The four DVDs are THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES VOL. I, THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW VOL. 1, CHARLIE CHAPLIN VOL. I, and CASPER & FRIENDS. The BEVERLY HILLBILLIES disc apparently was made through the brilliant masterstroke of looking up the theme tune's copyright on Ask Jeeves or something as it's been dumped in favor of a generic banjo-picker that doesn't sound anything like the show's theme song, not even vaguely. Thankfully, Andy's whistling tune has been left untouched. The Dollar DVD openings run from 10:26 to 15:32.
Last but not least, we come to a Double D release of the World War II drama A WALK IN THE SUN, from 2004. It's apparently a reprint of a Front Row DVD of this movie, the files for which were created on November 9, 1999. The front cover touts that it's been "digitally remastered for superior quality." That's a complete lie.
