Bio:
In 1957 Larry Figueiredo (aka Larry Chance) had just completed high school and moved with his family to the Bronx from Philadelphia. He began singing with some guys he met at the Tecumsa Social Club. They called themselves the High Hatters, complete with hats and
canes for dramatic effect.

Larry led the High Hatters in a style that was his own interpretation of street vocalizing.
The other High Hatters were Bob Del Din (First Tenor), Eddie Harder (Second Tenor), Larry Palumbo (Baritone), and John Wray (Bass)
Larry Palumbo died due to injuries sustained in a parachuting accident while serving with the Army and never had the opportunity to record with the group.

The remaining High Hatters went on singing from street corner to street corner and in the Fall of 1959 would be discovered by Johnny Power, who along with his business partner Trade Martin had recently started up Rome Records.

Power brought the group to A-1 Studio where they would record 4 songs. Trade Martin played all the instruments for the music tracks.

It was at this time the group decided to change their name and decided on The Earls after Larry opened up a dictionary to the letter "E" and saw the entry for Earl.

It would take another year before Rome would be able to release its' debut record, the Earls version of the Harptones classic, "Life Is But A Dream", which was released in April of 1961 with "It's You" as the B-side, and again in May of 1961 with "Without You" as the B-
side.

Although the Earls recorded several demo recordings between 1960-1962, Rome Records would only be able to release 3 singles
before the label folded in 1962.

The Rome releases were as follows:

Rome 101 - Life Is But A Dream / It's You - Released 4/61
Rome 101 - Life Is but A Dream / Without You - Released 5/61
Rome 102 - Looking For My Baby / Cross My Heart - Released 9/61
Rome 5117 - My Heart's Desire / I Won't Cry - Released 3/62.
