So as some of you know Matt was in a wheelchair for almost a year of his life. He has been hit by a car while riding his bike and both of his legs were severely hurt in the process. So how does a young kid go from life-changing injury to breaking world records twenty years later? Well, his secret was taking his frail body into the pool and rehabbing his muscles back from an atrophied state to a whole new level of strength. Now no everyone needs to retrain their body back from a terrible injury, but that's not to say this sort of work doesn't allow the body to recover much faster than most recovery methods. Walking in a pool gives the body the environment that allows for more movement with less compressible force. This isn't just for your grandparents, it's very useful when maintaining stretch reflex and forcing the body to build flexibility along the way. So what do you need to do to start this new form of recovery? Well, you'll need a pool at least 4 feet deep and it's easier to have longer lap lanes. If you don't have that all you'll have to do is measure the length of your pool and then figure out how many reps you would do to complete a normal lap to get equal time in the water.
