A school in Vienna was placed on lockdown temporarily on Wednesday after one of the teachers was suspected of having the deadly coronavirus.

Officials, including medics and police were at the scene as the street was cordoned off.

Local media report that the teacher at the BGRG 8 Gymnasium was suspected of having contracted the virus whilst recently on holiday in northern Italy, but tests have subsequently shown they were not infected.

According to the latest reports by the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), at least 81,000 people have been infected by the COVID-19 so far and over 2,700 people have died. There have currently been 374 cases confirmed in Italy.
