Singapore is planning to secure new jobs for workers even before they are retrenched, by matching them to vacancies. A new Job Security Council is joining forces with more than 4,000 companies. The focus is to help professionals, managers and executives (PMEs) who make up the bulk of retrenchments. Labour chief Ng Chee Meng said the move to pilot the council comes amid growing concern among workers in their 40s to 50s, who are displaced and take a long time to find another job.
