My suggestion is to work with what Google is favoring in the search results. Make a YouTube video that complements your original article. Analyze the "People Also Ask" boxes and verify that your page answers all those same questions. Does your original page have up-to-date information, or does it need to be reassessed? Lastly, does the design of your website look current? Or has it been four or five years since a redesign?
Your competitors are creating content, making videos, improving their design, and that is why they have more real estate on the first page of Google for your target search term. Not merely Google changing the layout for that first page of results. You must change with what is happening now, improving your web pages to retain your rankings, or someone else will take those top rankings away from you.
