Union home ministry announced that the time limit for filing appeals in foreigners tribunals will be doubled to 120 days from the existing 60 days. The decision came as a relief to residents of Assam who are currently excluded from the National Register of Citizens (NRC). Home minister Amit Shah took the decision after a review meeting on the NRC, that was also attended by Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal and registrar general Vivek Joshi.
