Liverpool News: What Liverpool have been doing with Adrian during international break amid Alisson

Liverpool News: What Liverpool have been doing with Adrian during international break amid Alisson The majority of the Liverpool squad may have been away on international duty over the break, but there has still been plenty of work going on at Melwood. Newly-signed goalkeeper Adrian has been thrown straight into the deep end since arriving on a free transfer last month, after Alisson suffered a calf injury on the opening day of the season against Norwich. John Achterberg, Liverpool’s goalkeeper coach, has been working with the Spaniard during the first week of the international break to help him adapt to Jurgen Klopp’s tactical expectations. “We did a few extra sessions with them both last week at Melwood,” Achterberg told Liverpool’s website. “Obviously Adrian came late in the summer to us and then after that he had an ankle injury, so we thought it would be beneficial to do some more sessions to keep it going, really. “We did some decent workouts with him. Distribution, crosses, speed and reactions, power – we worked a little bit on everything just to help him and keep him fit and ready. “He also had a few days off, but not the full week. We kept it ticking over to make sure he is ready to go again.” Following his release from West Ham, Adrian signed for the Reds just four days before the new Premier League campaign.  He has since played a part in all four of their Premier League matches and was the hero in the Super Cup penalty shootout triumph over Chelsea in Istanbul. Alisson was also at Melwood during the international break as he steps up his recovery plan. The Brazilian has been working on his rehabilitation, which Liverpool are refusing to rush and put a timescale on in fear of rushing him back too soon. Despite that, their No 1 is finally back out on the field which is most definitely a step in the right direction as he begins light work with the ball.  “Ali has been working with Dave [Rydings] in the gym a lot to improve the strength and try to keep the fitness levels up,” Achterberg recently said. “In the last few days he has been out on the pitch to do some catching and footwork, as well as small passing drills. “He has made steady progress, but it is difficult to say how long it will take or how it will progress. It needs time and we cannot look too far ahead, so we take each day as it comes, see how he feels, and then make progress from that.”
