Recent research has found that including maize silage in the diet of a lactating dairy cow, when compared to a 100% high DMD grass silage diet plus 6 kg of concentrates; replacing a proportion of grass silage with maize silage at a rate of 33% (plus 6 kg of concentrate) resulted in an additional average of 1.7 kg of milk daily, while also increasing overall dry matter intake.
