Frenzied and mad
The old wendigo
Haltingly approaching
Unresponsive to its frame
Falling apart as it proceeds further, further into the glum, somber forest
It’s hollow ears caught something
The moon illuminated the glade, revealing the little frail youth
The youngling, ignorant to the dull, sunken orb peering at them from between the trees
Continued to hum it’s clumsy me,loud, softly echoing through ones skull
The wendigo
, succumbing to its insatiable hunger, called forth the little one
“Onwards” the placid voice coaxed , “you shall be safe with me”
The raspy feminine voice
Persuaded the child to follow
Silence. Silence
Stepping deeper into the woods
Becoming increasingly difficult to see
The child continued to follow
Wandering noticeably slower each time their feet met with the earthy ground
The child continued to follow
Silence. Silence
Without warning the child fell to the ground, vision blurring the being stalking towards them
Silence. Silence
Laughter akin to a broken record player
Suddenly erupted throughout the forest masking the silent screams
The smell of rotting flesh wafted out of its pores, eyes glowing like hot coals
It down upon the mess
Silence. Silence
After pondering for a moment or two, the wendigo felt unsatisfied, hungry
Feelings as if it was on the brink of starvation
Greed spreading like the rats to the plague
It’s swiftly stalked back the way it came from
It’s unbridled evil urging it to find more quarry
To feast upon
Silence. Silence
The rustling of trees steadily dancing in the soundless forest
Was all that could by anyone who dared ventured
Into the woods
