The Tools You Will Need to Enhance Your Eyes:
- A light eye shadow color (shadow or cream)
- A medium eye shadow color (shadow or cream)
- A dark eye shadow color (only liner: shadow, pencil, gel or liquid)
- Optional: shimmer shadow (shadow, cream, or liquid)
- Mascara
Tip: For the best results use a primer before applying the eyeshadow.
Step 1: Apply a Base Color on Your Eyelid
If you are fairer skinned, you can go for white, bone, or ivory. If you have medium skin-tone, you can go for warmer tones. Finally, with darker skin, you can choose a slightly deeper color.
The lightest color goes all over the lid using a big fluffy or flat eyeshadow brush which applies it quickly and evenly.
This way, you’ll prepare the eye for colored shadows that are different from your skin tone and it will be easier to blend the next shadow on top.
Step 2: Apply the Medium Color on Your Eyelid
The medium color can differ depending on your skin tone.
This color goes from the lash line to three quarters of the way up using either a flat or a dense rounded eyeshadow brush to blend the shadow into the skin and avoid harsh edges.
Step 3: (Optional) Shimmer Eye Shadow
Now it’s time to add a shimmer which you can get in different formulas—shadow or cream shimmer and even liquid shimmer that dries if you want that extra sparkle.
You can apply this shadow with your fingers on the main lid area which is also pretty for a day eye makeup look because it opens the eye up but if you want to keep it matte, then that’s fine too.
Step 4: Use Dark Color as a Liner
The darker color should always be a liner because it will frame and open your eyes up. This doesn’t mean that it should be a cat eye but a line that follows your upper lash line.
The darker color for the liner can be black, brown, or navy blue.
You can create this liner with a dark eyeshadow, gel, liquid, or pencil applying it from the mid-lash line to outer corner and softer to the inner corner.
Optional: For a softer look, smudge the liner.
Step 5: Mascara
Add a few coats of black mascara to your lashes to really make the eyes pop!
