The next release on SleepLess Recordings comes from Mistrix & Unrefined. The ‘Choices’ EP features two original tracks, accompanied by a remix from Obskür. The duo, from Kildare in Ireland, blur the lines between House and Techno music - emphasising on the most potent traits of both genres and everything in between, to deliver a hard-hitting and euphoric end product.
‘Choices’ is a robust, driving number with a big personality. The mix is so vast and atmospheric in places that its weight almost seems boundless. Sharp hats, pounding kicks, climatic builds, thunderous drops and a captivating vocal - all the necessities of a timeless club record.
The pair continue with ‘Nobody Else’, another colossal club number. Chugging rhythm, composed of heavyset kick drums, crisp hats and and shuffled percussion pave the way for a compelling combination of stabs, pads and modulated synth lines. Another engaging hook demands attention in the breakout sections of the track, before being manipulated and weaved into the beat to give it even more personality.
Obskür rounds the release off with their remix of ‘Nobody Else’. A gritty and empowering adaptation of the original running a fine line between Jungle, Breaks and Techno, crammed with emotive energy and individuality. Impossible to put in a box, this takes standout remixes to the absolute line, offering something unlike anything you are likely to hear for a long time.
