Ricciardo Sends Friendly Reminder to Ocon
The inter team battle between teammates is a delicate dance. It is the clearest metric for comparing two drivers as any difference in performance boils down to their driving skills alone.
This can cause drivers to be a bit too enthusiastic when it comes to proving themselves against their teammate.
Renault's new driver Esteban Ocon has a somewhat rocky history with his former F1 teammate and his present teammate Daniel Ricciardo has implored him to take a different approach this time around.
“He’s had problems with Perez, problems with Max… we, him and I, need to understand that we’re not fighting for wins yet, so for us to be tearing each other’s heads off is not the way we need to go about our business.”
“We’ve got to be smart and help each other out and bring the team forwards together. I’ve got no intentions to do anything other than that.”
Ricciardo does have previous experience with hotshot teammates trying to prove themselves
“I had a bit of a taste at Red Bull when Max came in as the hot new property and me being the established guy, so it’s not new to me.”
He is also relishing the inevitable competition with Ocon and will give it his all to gain the upper hand.
“I know if he starts beating me, that becomes the narrative, but I’m not looking into that too much. Until he starts beating me, I have every opportunity to beat him, so I’m going to do what I can to make sure I’m the one.”
Mercedes’ DAS Advantage in Tight Corners
Mercedes' DAS system has attracted a lot of attention and F1 experts expect it to continue to invoke a lot of discussion throughout the 2020 season.
Although, no quantative benefits of the system had been revealed so far Red Bull advisor Dr. Helmut Marko has made an attempt understand where the advantage of this system lies.
"They win the time against us because they have no understeer when cornering in tight corners. They achieve that with DAS."
On another note, he does seem happy about the progress Honda has made as made apparent by Alpha Tauri's performance during testing
"AlphaTauri are doing well, [they are] not far [off] from Racing Point. They improved the power unit in every respect. The engine has more power, consumes less and improved its driveability."
