Little Luna, now eight months, was born with the condition congenital melanocytic nevus which had covered her face with a dark blemish since birth. But incredible footage shows the moment Dr Pavel Popov removed her bandages to reveal minimal scarring and the skin beneath blemish-free and healing even better than expected. Over the next year and a half Luna will undergo the eight pain-free procedures in an attempt to remove the rest of the birthmark from her little face entirely. Before and after snaps show how a significant chunk of the blemish has vanished from the tot's face. Mum Carol says she faced a tough decision to bring Luna over to Russia and undergo the treatments with people telling her she was "crazy" to travel all that way and undergo the expensive treatments. One cruel woman had even branded the eight-month-old a "monster." But Dr Popov told Carol he could help with the blemish on Luna's face without hurting her. Carol said: "I wanted to avoid the aggressive surgeries that I was seeing with the other doctors in the US." But she says "mothers feel something," and her and partner Thiago Tavares set up a GoFundMe appeal to help pay for the treatment. Incredibly, Luna is now able to travel home a month early and spend Christmas with both her parents due to the success of the treatment. Carol said: "This is the best possible Christmas present for our family - and it has come early thanks to Dr Popov. "It makes us feel the miracle of Christmas." Removing Luna's bandages, Dr Popov says: "We thought that healing would take a bit longer. "We are now ready to let Carol go home a month ahead of schedule. "We expected to have good results, but what we've seen exceeds expectations...Her skin will heal naturally."
