Australia bushfires: New South Wales declares state of emergency A seven-day state of emergency has been declared in New South Wales where strong winds have fanned around 100 bushfires, half of which remain uncontrolled.

It comes after Australia broke its heat records for the second day running on Wednesday, with maximum temperatures reaching an average of 41.9C, the Bureau of Meteorology said.
